New Music: TC 'Phone Shop'

Last year, Channel 4 showed a pilot episode of a new comedy, 'Phone Shop', that was so funny I literally forced my workmates to watch it - and they loved it too! The show is funny because it is so much like the phone shops in 'endz'. EVERYONE knows how a phone shop operates and we've all dealt with the stereotypical 'mandem dressed as lamb' sales assistants.
Back to the point.....

On the pilot episode, they used 'Where's My Money (Caspa Remix)' by Drum & Bass DJ/producer TC and as a thank you, TC made 'Phone Shop' using the best and most talked about part of the show.....where Jerwayne raps to a customer!!!

This song is actually the best thing I've heard in ages, you can just imagine some old skool MC saying: "...man needs a piece to check da gyaldem wid.." LOOOOOLLLLL!!!

Exclusive: Kelis 'Acapella' Teaser Video

Oh Kelis! How my screen has missed you! Today, she released a lil teaser of her upcoming music video, 'Acapella (produced by David Guetta) and speaking to Rap-Up about the clip she said:

"It has a really strong, universal, tribal vibe to it. When I say that,
I mean it's no particular tribe; it's a little bit of everything...it's like if
the world were to end and there was one woman standing, what would it be
like?"

"It's not fashion-oriented at all. Actually, it's the complete
opposite...I think everything is over-fashioned up that it just becomes
uninteresting, and when every artist has access to every designer and vice
versa, it's no longer exciting or fun."

Even though it's a short clip it looks like it will be quite arty [although she said things are over-fashioned...whatever Kelis!?!?! This is coming from a woman who dressed like a pink lizard recently...] and cinematography is definitely a good look so...WORK IT GIRRRL...

Her new album 'Flesh Tones' is scheduled to be released in June but there have already been supposed leaks scattered around the web but so far I only like this song, '4th of July'...

No Invitations!?!?

Whenever I see this advert, I wonder what I was doing the day this was filmed cos it looks like fun and it looks a lil like London....I was probably stuck watching some guy's armpit on the tube....

Ryan Leslie YouTube's favourite beatvlogger didn't get the invite to the party...but they gave him his own advert and they let him 'write the theme tune and sing the theme tune'...love that skit!

NEW MUSIC: P-Money ft. David Dallas and Aaradhna 'Say Yeah!'

Now the sun has decided to show it's beautiful face, I have started forming various summer playlists to compliment my shiny-happy mood! Luckily, award-winning New Zealand DJ/Producer [and friend!] P-Money sent me a song a while ago that he thought I would 'like'....and I LOVED IT!! 'Say Yeah' has a dance/house vibe, sweet vocals from Aaradhna and rapper David Dallas gives it the rap edge perfect for my 'rollerskating around the park' playlist lol.....[WOOOOOoooooo*CRASH*ooooooooOOOOOWW....ouch!]

New Video: Timbaland ft Justin Timberlake 'Carry Out'

Timbo-lake are at it again with their new banger off the Shock Value 2 album, 'Carry Out'. Not much of a banger but compared to that Katy Perry trash he made us listen to, I think everyone would rather listen to this wouldn't they? It's got the same sorta 'jam-in-the-studio-might-aswell-release-it' vibe but it's cool. I'm very tired and still feel kinda ill so I'm gonna move on to the....

Pros:

  1. The beat...especially when he drops the drums near the end
  2. Justin Timberlake in the white suit, bow tie and trilby hat was v.nice....almost as suave as T.I. :D haha
  3. Cupcakes [they DO appear in the video...it wasn't a random request]

Cons:

  1. Timbaland letting his [near enough] identical brother, Sebastien, be in a Timbo video [again]. It's too confusing!....Or does Timbo want us to mistake him for his skinnier brother...hmmm....either way it annoys me! Just tell the dude to go eat a donut or something.
  2. The whole Kanye/Hype Williams 'Goldigga' 50's pin-up girl thing is playyyyed OUT
  3. Talking 'bout played out.....what the HECK is Justin wearing at the start of the vid???? WHITE trucker hat with a WHITE jacket......and the jacket has that terrible 90's zip up collar :'( ....why....WHYYYYYY......rockin' that WASHED UP Russian popstar look aint doin you no favours at all bruv
  4. Justin's trucker hat, again....it's just too painful.
  5. THOSE headphones that in every damn video popping up
  6. Justin didn't dance, instead he followed suit and did those silly Timbo face spasms
  7. Is this all we get Timbo? Where you hiding them FIYAH tracks like 'Bounce'....this is ridiculous

[Hahaha...I love how I always sound like I hate everything I write about when I am actually nodding my head to the beat as I type...but I really can't find any other Pros!]

*Kara* really wants to know ......WHAT IS THE POINT OF VEVO!?!??!

New Music: MIA 'There's Space For Ol Dat I See'

I like MIA because she's always willing to take risks and release sounds onto us that may not sit comfortably with our ears on the first listen. I have just listened to her track three times in a row and to be honest, I don't like this track that much. I know there are some who like whatever she does because it's MIA approved [this sentence sounds dumb but it makes sense lol]. That's fine. She IS an amazing artist, without a doubt, but I'm looking at the track for what it is an' I don' like deeeess songs misser.

I like the trippy effects in relation to the whole space theme, I once had a space moment and tried to make a beat along those lines so I love this kinda stuff. However, I don't like that you cannot play it loudly because of how brash it gets at times. I like that the dude who worked on this track, Rusko, did something opposite to his usual Dubstep sound as he did Kid Sister's 'Pro Nails' Dubstep remix but after listening to this....I found myself getting a lil ...meh.
I can't wait to hear more stuff from her though!

*HoodandProper*LONDON, Quieten down I need to make a sound!!!!

New Music Video: Amerie - Heard 'Em All

Amerie's is back with her new-jack-swag [as in, her new attempts at swagger-jackin]. Heard 'Em All is the second single [the first one was Why R U] from her new album Love and War. The video was directed by Anthony Mandler who obviously has an obsession with the dark as his CV boasts video such as Disturbia and Run This Town. You would have probably noticed this within the first few seconds of the video as the lighting, bad-ass/evil theme, blah blah.
The red-riding hood Amerie 'rocks' in the video is obviously supposed to symbolise danger. How smart! I mean, who would think of that! However, the only danger here is that the tidal wave that is Rihanna will crash down on her weak image and wipe out any chance of succes as the Disturbed singer is planning to release new material soon [great... I can't wait to hear Rihanna's 'will yell for fame' ass ruining good beats].

Now, the song. Yet again, Amerie is screeching in vain like a car horn among millions of other cars in traffic. No one cares and it's not going to get her anywhere. Not to mention, the song is all over the place. The verses are like one bar long before she starts chanting 'hooo-heyy-hooo', then drilling 'keep doin somethin cos something aint been done to me' into us.

Random thing I noticed - During the first verse she's accompanied by what looks like all-black dancers; the second verse she is surrounded by Lady Gaga dopplegangers. Why? Is there a message behind this? I know the Illuminati theorists are usually jump at the chance to analyse stuff like this but I doubt even they consider Amerie's video a 'hot' topic [but then again, it was warm enough for me to write about it!].

Pros: She looks good...but she always does so it's whatever. The beat could be a grower, if you're really desperate and have nothing else to do for the next couple of weeks.

Cons: Her poor attempt at a West-Indian accent in the beginning.
Uninspiring, unexciting, unrelated choreography [what's up with the dancing in her awkwardly, slow breakdown at 3.00mins?].

QUICK ROUND UP- She's pretty and the video is pretty dull. The beat is sassy so single girls will love it because they can point at their friends on the dancefloor and sing about how they don't need a man, their independence etc. Girls who have men will hate the song because it will be a constant reminder of their man's obsession with A's legs. Everyone else will hope that there is a remix.

Before I finish, there's this one thing, that had me trippin'....she start's the song singing....

"It's Amerie,
I took a lil time out,
Took a vacation, but boys I'm back"

Erm, what vacation?? Amerie has got it all twisted, WE took a vacation on her ass. Did you download her last single, Gotta Work? Nope.
Amerie, Let us know when your planning another vacation so we can take the ear plugs out. Heard 'em all...we've heard enough, thanks.

Amerie.....please get back to these days...

*I am* Hood in my mismatched checked pyjamas and off to get ready for Yinkz B'day meal. WOOOOO!!! HAPPY BDAY TO 'The girl of many funny tales'!!!

Magnificent. In...deed.

Obviously when Fiddy Cent and everybody started dissing Rick Ross 'Tha Bowss' (or Tha Officer lol) I laughed along with 'em....real HARD! We all like a good laugh don't we?! That being said, I never, NEVER, took Fiddy's side, his lyrics are bogus. Anyway, considering Killa Cam finished their beef with one word (CURRRTISSSS!) he blatantly isn't that good at making good comebacks either so he's basically just some guy who makes money and talks about it whilst his minions lick his bum-bum. [Sorry, I know I always write lame longness about 50 Cent but I am going somewhere with this!]. This random guy does a better Rick-diss video, looking like he out-grew his Village People outfit, [best bits: "I'm trilllaaaaaaa....Bowss...BOWSS!"].

So, Rick Ross has been a little silent, hasn't he? Did Fiddy's bullying get the better of him? Is Rick Rowss lowsst [that was supposed to rhyme but urm...]? Well, in my opinion, he's been away making bangers! Bangers, I tells ya!! Working with the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, the producers behind the smoothness that was 'Maybach Music', Officer Ross and John Legend bring us the magnificent sounds of 'Magnificent'. I love the production on this track with a passion! You may criticise Officer Ricky but you cannot deny that both his gravelly flow and Legend's, equally, throaty wails work well. I won't go into technicalities [I will save that for my beatmaking friends who cannot hang up on me muahaha] but the beat is softly hard! Also, from what I have seen on a few forums I roam, it is not only I who is lusting after the crisp production of 'Magnificent' so I know your ears will enjoy this musical snickers bar.

If that doesn't convince you, whilst listening to 'Magnificent' for the millionth time today, I took on Tha Bowss-type attitude, marched over to some dudes in the uni library and told them to turn their music down because it was louder than mine. Sorry, but it had to be done.

However, the only negative I have about this song is I didn't hear 'WE THA BESSSS'....so much sincerity, in three short words *shakes head in remembrance*.

P.S. Play loud.

P.S.S. [invented because girls never shut up]

I watched this video of Tha Bowss playing 'Magnificent' to Daz Dillinger in the studio and my first thought was he is wayyyyy too comfortable. Shirtless, as usual, in a leather officer chair (clammy+leather=bad combo). Then he has the cheek to hover is ashtray over the mixing desk??? Nah bruv! He might as well be eating KFC off his stomach whilst shaving his armpits too....

New Music: 50 Cent 'Shut Your...'

I love when US rappers do the whole Patois thing and start claiming that their ancestors were Jamaican when people are puzzled by it. Busta Rhymes sounded kinda lame whenever he dropped the Yardie bars (and I doubt he'll brave that again...I hope). When 50 Cent dropped the word 'bloodcl**t' in 'I Get Money' the only thing I could do was laugh at how poor it sounded! It fell flatter than Beyonce's tumble down the stairs! Even though that memorable bar was supposed to incite a pandemonium and fear, he got zero ratings and everyone shook a leg without a care to the nonsense this guys spits. But why do we dance along to 50 Cent's music....his beats. Club bangers and car bangers are his forte so he excels in that sense. Beefing wasn't his forte, (please refer to the Cam'ron 'Curtis' era), however, he is stepping up his dissbacks (Rick Ross ain't a boss no mo'!).

50 teamed up with DJ Premier for his new track, 'Shut Your Bloodcl**t Mouth' which I must say has a nice beat, I mean c'mon, it's a product of Premo! In regards to this, why is DJ Premier giving this clown good beats....50 is not in the Hip Hop game for the love of rap...he blatantly tells us in every song he does that he is all about the money.

'Hate It Or Love It' was my lyrical highlight for 50. Although I will be honest and admit that I haven't wasted any more time getting to know his unreleased tracks, please enlighten me if there are other rap gems that top the honesty he expressed so poetically when him and the Game teamed up.

Good Points: The beat is NICE!!

Bad Points: The Ja-fake-an chorus and him talking 'smack' as ususal....boring....and most of his rapping is inaudible due to permanent lockjaw

New Music: Lil' Mama ft. Fanny Pack 'Truly in Love'

If you watch America's Best Dance Crew 2 on MTV, I'm sure you are very familiar with Fanny Pack. Personally, I like the show but I cannot STAND the way Lil' Mama cuts everyone up when they are talking. It's quite distgusting to watch as she is much younger and inexperienced compared to JC Chasez and the black guy who wears the same outfit in every episode - in a different colour. The guys are both clearly much older than her but for some reason MTV must think she's a star judge since she is always in the middle. Anyway, I could go on and on about her showing a lack of respect for dance veterans and the forced presenting from the Saved By the Bell dude but I shall move on.

I do not know who the winners of this season are and I do not want to know either. I hate people spoiling it for me and I don't wanna know more so I haven't researched this video any further than I should have! However, this video that has just been released might be good enough evidence to predict that Fanny Pack did quite well. Either that or Lil' Mama is taking them out on a pity date. Aside from that, Miss Bow Wow in a Wig has decided that it's time to pull a Kanye and jump on the T-Pain vocoder flex. YES, she is SINGING!!!Jamie Foxx once said:"...Hardcore rapper but he's glossy..." Hmmm...I think this may link to Lil' Mama's weak rep as a hoodchick cos its waning a little, well I never bought it when she danced around singing about makeup on her debut. Oh yeah, a member of the Fanny Pack made my ears bleed with his adlibs nearer the end of the clip....don't worry - you will know when you hear it! It annoys me cos he's the best looking one.....WHY DID YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH???? You've ruined it now.

Good points: The dancing in the second verse

Low points: Lil' Mama dancing with the bank clerk and the Fanny Pack dude's WEAK adlibs killed it
