As soon as I heard the beat.... I laughed. Not because it's bad- it just sounds like she's 'tryin a ting' [that sorta means that Estelle's trying to pull the wool over one's eyes ;)]. I don't wanna say too much because I seem to see/hear a certain artist's name everyday and if I carry on I will end up mentioning said artist.
Plus, I'm mega tired from what felt like a marathon of catching up with people today and Estelle is usually someone I rant about....I did enough ranting about Eastenders [the nation's fave soap...not out of choice though.]
This is weird! I was talking about Michelle Trachenberg as Harriet the Spy at work the other day [she also played Buffy the Vampire Slayer's younger sister] and here she pops up outta the blue.....rapping [I KNOW?!?!]....the whole of a Nicki Minaj verse whilst that Van-der-sumthin dude who played Dawson in Dawson's Creek films her. I dunno but it looks like Minaj is definitely gaining a lot of press these days so I guess that's due to her haters....in my opinion, rap is going down the pop route so roll with it ....and yes I liked nicki before this pink hair stuff and the stupid voices...I still do
*Kara*was about to post the new Luda and Minaj video but is half asleep*byyyeeee*
Timbo-lake are at it again with their new banger off the Shock Value 2 album, 'Carry Out'. Not much of a banger but compared to that Katy Perry trash he made us listen to, I think everyone would rather listen to this wouldn't they? It's got the same sorta 'jam-in-the-studio-might-aswell-release-it' vibe but it's cool. I'm very tired and still feel kinda ill so I'm gonna move on to the....
Pros:
The beat...especially when he drops the drums near the end
Justin Timberlake in the white suit, bow tie and trilby hat was v.nice....almost as suave as T.I. :D haha
Cupcakes [they DO appear in the video...it wasn't a random request]
Cons:
Timbaland letting his [near enough] identical brother, Sebastien, be in a Timbo video [again]. It's too confusing!....Or does Timbo want us to mistake him for his skinnier brother...hmmm....either way it annoys me! Just tell the dude to go eat a donut or something.
The whole Kanye/Hype Williams 'Goldigga' 50's pin-up girl thing is playyyyed OUT
Talking 'bout played out.....what the HECK is Justin wearing at the start of the vid???? WHITE trucker hat with a WHITE jacket......and the jacket has that terrible 90's zip up collar :'( ....why....WHYYYYYY......rockin' that WASHED UP Russian popstar look aint doin you no favours at all bruv
Justin's trucker hat, again....it's just too painful.
THOSE headphones that in every damn video popping up
Justin didn't dance, instead he followed suit and did those silly Timbo face spasms
Is this all we get Timbo? Where you hiding them FIYAH tracks like 'Bounce'....this is ridiculous
[Hahaha...I love how I always sound like I hate everything I write about when I am actually nodding my head to the beat as I type...but I really can't find any other Pros!]
*Kara* really wants to know ......WHAT IS THE POINT OF VEVO!?!??!
I know I'm late with this [I'm ill :( ]but ohhhh the bore that was the Brit awards. It really is the biggest music awards show in Britain but it really is rubbish. When I was younger, the Brits was more controversial and more entertaining than Liam Gallagher having a twitter tiff with Peter Kay. C'mon, Liam....Peter Kay? On the subject of past Brits, the Spice Girls deservedly walked off with the Most Memorable Performance of 30 years which featured Ginger Spice in that Union Jack dress wayyyy back in 1997...
Highlights of the night:
Tom Meighan from Kasabian running and slipping on to his ass because he was so excited to collect his award from Idris Elba (Stringer Bell from The Wire). And no, I wasn't laughing at him, I was laughing with him because I woulda done the SAME thing lol!
Can you believe that IDRIS ELBA himself came to my workplace a few days before the Brits!! He was walking around upstairs and talking to one of my friends whilst me and the other girls worked away downstairs!?!?!? I haven't told one of my friends cos I know she will beat me up for being NEAR him. However, I will tell her I too was shocked and equally upset considering one of the guys came and told us when Ricky Butcher from Eastenders was in the shop earlier that day. LOL!
Dizzee Rascal doing some random skank while Fearne Cotton [and her terrible hair extensions] were interviewing him. You can take a guy outta the roads but you can't take the road outta the guy.
JLS *teen girl screeeeaaaaaam* winning two awards made me smile because people always laugh when I say they are my guilty pleasure. Well who's laughing NOW??!?!? [....I know, I know.....I will still get laughed at...]. And can someone tell Oritse his 'I can't believe it' face and victory dances makes me cringe.
Robbie Williams' medley was really good! I've always liked Robbie and Take That since I was little - good old catchy pop songs, charm and charisma is definitely Robbie's niche...this is how you entertain....
Low points of the night:
Lady Gaga's self indulgent performance. I know that artists should be free to express themselves [blah blah] but just imagine if you had booked Michael Jackson to perform at an awards ceremony and he sings 'Ben' from his stool. Not that you don't like 'Ben', it's just that you'd rather see him do 'Billie Jean'. You see what I'm getting at?
Lily Allen opened the show. Why? Then she went on to pick up the gong for Best Britsh Female Solo Artist. Really? Okay LOL!!!! She accepted the award wearing a huge ginger wig [just a tad smaller than her ego] and said she did so because she didn't want the camera to be able to find her and show her disappointed face when she lost an award. I didn't buy it and I don't think the audience did either.
Dizzee Rascal and Florence & the Machine's Gri/ndie duet sounded nice on paper....let us all be honest - as much as you wanted it to be great, it wasn't. [Ohhh, LMAO, talking of bad duets, did anyone see Meatloaf perform on Popstar to Operastar....my ears bled for mercy.]
REALLY Low points of the night:
Cheryl Cole trying it!!!! ARGHHHHH she annoys meeeeee!!! Someone needs to tattoo 'I AM NOT BEYONCE' on her forehead because I think she is starting to believe she's Jigga's boo. Boo...YOU AINT his boo and your own boo don't want YOU!!!!! Her performance was whack and I was soooooo hoping she would take a trip down the stairs as she had already copied Bey's outfit and stage set from that infamous 'Ring The Alarm tumble'. Her miming was atrocious and so was the house mashup with Robin's 'Show Me Love'. Just stop.
The Winner's List

[ARGH!!!Why won't blogger let me format properly :( ] *KARA* is without chocolate...
How ANNOYING is that Envirofone advert??? The script is tooooo cheesy and if this ad goes on any longer that 'WONGA' guy is tipped to be the nu-wave of the Rick Roll saga.
Oh! And that black guy at 0.20secs *kara grinds her teeth*. I. Can't. Stand. Him. I mean - CALM DOWN like....jam, innit!!! Why is he so hyped? Who gets so excited about the highly unlikely possiblity of sending off your brick phone and getting "MAYBE EVEN ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY POUNDS" back?? He so ecstatic that he sort of splutters his line with uncontainable[cringeworthy] glee. Losers. Apparently, Lacey Turner [Stacey Slater from Eastenders] sister is the girl wearing the blonde extensions and the pink velour tracksuit.....she sounds like Stacey....and if the camera were to zoom out, she's probably wearing Uggs like Stacey too.
However, sometimes annoying cheese becomes fun cheese....me and my lil bro have been sucked into singing this song EVERYTIME we hear it...now this radio/TV advert is dangerously catchy...
*Kara* Is still laughing about a friend's story that includes her mother being on national TV and the word 'Wongo'. LOL.....shockingly funny.
Sadly, Alexander McQueen, passed away this morning at his home in London a few days prior to London Fashion week in what may have been a suicide. Although the news is sad, his designs will always be remembered amongst the fashion and art world....
[I had to post both photo's of this technicolour dream dress ;)]
I love my new jacket! It reminds me of the fabulously, materialistic Hilary from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. It also warms my heart to know that it fits nicely [except for the arms which I now have to take a needle'n'thread to......yawning!]. DAHWELL [in my best Fresh Prince voice]!
*This jacket says* "Daddy.......I need 500 hundred dollars."
I just watched the 'Rude Boy' video and to be honest, I actually really like the visuals [as you can see from the quick lil collage I did just to jazz up the post ;)]. That's it really. I don't like the song at all and I doubt I will watch the video again now that I've got my lil collage to look at LOL! Rihanna can't really dance so the director thought he would go all Andy Warhol on us and use Rihanna like a can of campbell's soup to create movement...
Director's thoughts: "DAYUUMMM!!!This chick can't dance-what am I gonna do...*lightbulb moment*...select all of her tall ass...copy...paste, paste, paste, paste, paste, paste, paste, invert colours, paste left, paste right, paste, paste, paste, flash images, flash, flash, paste...wow...it DID work..."
PROS: Colours, tribal patterns :D, the Keith Haring doodles, cartoon cut-out graphics
CONS: When it switches to the monochrome Keith Haring inspired room....I don't like the contrast between green screen backgrounds to 'hot-minute-real-background'. I get the whole change of mood and all but it irks me.
Oh, and her 'dancing'.
There is no way I can paste this due to restrictions from VEVO [what tha HECK is that thing?!?!?!] it keeps being deleted so watch it now before it disappears again!!
*HoodandProper insists* Okay, no more Rihanna on here [and, hopefully, the radio] for a long time now...lol!
J.U.S.T.I.C.E League rapper, Laws, and 9th Wonder? Hmmm. This should be good.
*Kara* is still full from all of the Mexican food a few hours ago...even though she left...wait for it....HALF of the food!?!??!However, the guacamole was polished off, nicely.
Balloons, a zebra, Keith Haring doodles all over the walls, a monochrome catsuit....and some chick writhing around the floor to remain relevant amongst the art. I don't big up Rihanna because of the fact that I am too aware of her manufactured persona. She is not edgy, her stylist is edgy and she is ready.....ready to do anything from 'leaked topless pics' to pierced bits. As I have said before, Rihanna is just a face. The same way Cassie is just a face. These two artists are great poster girls for the 'if you missed the charisma and stage presence train, jump on the sex sells bandwagon' advert. When she spends more time in the studio then on some dude or on the roadside like some hooker then I will stop writing negative [truthful] things about her. Actually, I...awww who cares...
*Kara* would love to see what would happen if someone told Rihanna her whole team are all on holiday.... for a year....[phhhffft!]
Rihanna tries to reclaim her Carribean roots for her next video, 'Rude Boy', with some, erm, Sean Paul video-gal outfits. She even dusts off her 'Pon De Replay' weave for one of her looks. This will be interesting to see as the song itself somehow sounds a lil dated and this outfit with the leopard print hat....ditto....[hey...doesn't she look like that singer from Barbados, Shontelle, in this pic..?]
Monochrome tribal goodness...
The sequin hat is cute and the bracelet made out of G-Shock watches looks fun cos it reminds me of when I used to make bracelets by chaining bits of coloured paper together at school...the sunglasses are too bait...
The only good thing on the radio this year via Rihanna was 'Hard' and by good thing, I mean the people who produced/wrote/arranged the track. Just thought I'd add that small bit of truth so you stans can call it customary 'hating'.
*Kara* is off to the movies ...must.....stay....awake ;)
Me and a friend at work were the only people who seemed to remember an old track called 'Just For The Hustlers' from a UK rapper called Pound Sterling. The beat was sooooooo cool I just knew that there was no way someone made this beat especially for him....
Both of us wanted the original because....well...did you listen to Pound's 'flow' ^^^....it sounds like he's asleep. So here's the original, 'Police Women Theme' a classic B-Boy break by Henry Mancini [which is now being downloaded to my laptop as I type].
As if the breakin' beat could get any smoother, Outkast and Raekwon keep the crowd "...jumpin' like kangaroos..". Andre 3000's white wig, alone, deserves a rewind... *Kara* is showtime at the Appollo3000
I know some of you guys are waiting for the next BeyGaga video, 'Telephone', so here are some pics from behind the scenes.... The video apparently features Tyrese, Cholas (ghetto latina chicks, for those who don't know watch Fergie's videos and you will see her backing dancers are dressed as Cholas), bodybuilders, other crazy stuff and is centered around Beyonce busting Gaga out of jail before the go for a spin in Uma Thurma's ride from the Kill Bill movie which Quentin Tarantino let them borrow especially for the shoot.
Oh and I saw this video of Verka Serduchka, the Ukrainian Eurovision Song Contest 2007 entry, over the weekend and I was immediately wondering if Lady Gaga was ever inspired by this polka-techno madness before she appeared on our screens....
Yesterday, everyone at work had fun at our friend's birthday shindig! We all kept diggin' away at THE most mouth-watering Greek food and this yummy, whipped cream almond cake.....as you can see, the B-day gal has a thing for Vivienne Westwood.... ;)
Click on the link below to check out some behind the scenes photos from the 'Break It Down' dance shoot!!! Fun times....sweating it out to some New Jack Diplo Swing.....
My new [week old] iphone case! And my matching [two week old] nails that are shock horror...pink. I have always strayed from shocking pink cos it was too girly for me. I dunno, I just feel like when people look at my nail colour it says 'high maintenance pink' instead of 'hot pink'.
Yesterday, the music world was in full in effect at the Grammy's with ridiculous nominees (if the Hip Hop nominees were anything to go by...Hip Hop really IS dead], shocking hair, and record breaking wins.
Here is my quick round up of winners and some performances...I'll clean it up later ;) :
Album of the Year: Fearless — Taylor Swift[Why???....they don't even play any of her songs in the UK....even Lady Gaga's album is more worthy]
Song of the Year: Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It) - Beyonce[Song of the year, anthem of the year, dance of the year.....dance of the decade....best combination of cinematography and choreography this year....lol...you can tell I love this song :)]
Beyonce won a record SIX awards which is more than her own record that she shares with Lauryn Hill for most wins for a female in one night.
She now has....wait for it....SIXTEEN GRAMMYS. I think she had a preminition about multiple awards....remember this scene from the 'Diva' video...we all know those were supposed to be life-size OSCARS not Grammys but a suitable pic for the occasion ....
This is Bey doing her 'If I were a Boy' medley at yesterday's awards. I liked her marching bit...the rest, is a copy of what she did when I saw her concert in November last year so it's not amazing. She still owned the stage though.
Best Solo Rock Performance: Working on a Dream — Bruce Springsteen [my mum likes him so she'll be happy to hear he's still relevant haha!] Record of the Year: Use Somebody — Kings of Leon

Best Rock Album: 21st Century Breakdown — Green Day Best Hard Rock Performance: War Machine — AC/DC
Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals: Use Somebody — Kings of Leon[Their album was played EVERYDAY when I was in Portugal last year because Miss Lazy and Confused was over-obsessed with them...we got dressed to them....went to sleep to them...blasted their songs on the beach to the anger and joy of the public....good times!]
Best Rap/Sung Collaboration: Run This Town — Jay-Z, Rihanna & Kanye West [In my opinion, if 'Jizz In My Pants' was a collabo Lonely Island would have won.]
Here's a video of Rhianna and Jay accepting the award with Solange's son Jules....who is not that bothered when Rhianna tries to act all cute and pick him up...
Best Female Pop Vocal Performance: Halo — Beyonce
Best New Artist: Zac Brown Band [this band was being championed by Common on the red carpet live show on E! then when I looked the band up and they both revealed they will work with each other this year....then I found this video ....]
Best Electronic/Dance Album: The Fame — Lady Gaga
Best Dance Recording: Poker Face — Lady Gaga
Here is Lady Gaga performing with Queen John of Elton....
Best Alternative Music Album: Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix — Phoenix Best Contemporary R&B Album: I Am… Sasha Fierce — Beyonce [Don't hate...cos it was. Not best traditional R'n'B / Neo-soul album...best commercial R'n'B album last year was Beyonce's]
Best Female R&B Vocal Performance: Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It) — Beyonce [Erm!! WHAT!!! Jazmine Sullivan was robbed. Her vocals in general are just toooooo SICK so 'Lions and Tigers and Bears' was clearly snubbed.]
Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals: I Gotta Feeling — The Black Eyed Peas [This song needs to stop]
Best Rock Song: Use Somebody — Kings Of Leon
Best Pop Vocal Album: The E.N.D — The Black Eyed Peas
Best Male R&B Vocal Performance: Pretty Wings — Maxwell[This was one of the best songs of the year...just goes to show that you can make a good comeback...unlike Eminem....I'm still waiting for him to 'spit hot fiyah'].
Here is Maxwell performing that lovely song with Roberta Flack...
Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals: Blame It — Jamie Foxx & T-Pain[This should have gone to the vococder program that T.Pain always uses....]
Here they are performing with Doug E. Fresh and Slash...
Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance: At Last — Beyonce [...yea...it kinda was wasn't it!...damn, Bey...if I was a hater, I would really be mad right about now!] Best Rock Instrumental Performance: A Day in the Life — Jeff Beck Best Urban/Alternative Performance: Pearls — India.Arie & Dobet Gnahore [I haven't heard this...gotta admit I kinda forgot about her for a hot minute.] Best R&B Song: Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) — Beyonce [What can you say...] Best Rap Solo Performance: D.O.A (Death Of Auto-Tune) — Jay-Z [PURE TRASHHHHH!!!! This song was soooooo dead when it came out it I thought D.O.A really DID stand for Dead On Arrival....just cos you got a few horns don't call it a comeback. GOback.] Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group: Crack a Bottle — Eminem, Dr. Dre & 50 Cent [Yawn.]
Best Rap Song: Run This Town — Jay-Z, Rihanna & Kanye West[Thanks to the judges, yet again Rhianna THINKS she can call herself a grammy winning singer just cos she let out a few bone-chilling noises on someone elses track]
This song is better.....Lil Wayne, Drake and Travis [MARRY MEEEEEE] Barker performing a medley... oh and you are warned...MAJOR CRINGE FACTOR courtesy of Quentin Tarantino's attempt to sound Hood sounding like Robert Downey JR's character from Tropic Thunder...
Best Rap Album: Relapse — Eminem [sorry I kinda relapsed myself]
Best Male Pop Vocal Performance: Make It Mine — Jason Mraz Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals: Lucky — Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat
Best Female Country Vocal Performance: White Horse — Taylor Swift

Best Americana Album:Electric Dirt — Levon Helm
Best Contemporary Blues Album: Already Free — The Derek Trucks Band Best Compilation Soundtrack Album For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media: Slumdog Millionaire — Various Artists and A R Rahman (producer) [I feel so rubbish...I STILL haven't seen this film :((((( I kept missing opportunities to go see it ;'( ] Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media: Jai Ho (From Slumdog Millionaire [I may not have seen it but this song is a CHOOOON] Best Recording Package: Everything That Happens Will Happen Today — David Byrne & Brian Eno
Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package: Neil Young 'Archives Vol. I'
Best Short Form Music Video: Boom Boom Pow — The Black Eyed Peas [This could have been a typo for the WORST short form music video this year] Best Long Form Music Video: The Beatles Love – All Together Now — (Various Artists) [Paul is the only person I know who shamelessly exploits his OWN music to the max ...have some self-respect man...appearing on X Factor and allsorts...smh]
Best Comedy Album: A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift Of All! — Stephen Colbert[Best comedy album - Rated R]
The show featured a special Michael Jackson Tribute with Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Celine Dion and Smokey Robinson followed by a few words from MJ's kids and his nephews...remember 3T...BOYYYY they have changed....
Mary J Blige also peformed on the night with opera royalty, Andrea Bocelli, for Haiti which was nice....
Pink as usual brought the circus with her...this time she wore her birthday suit....
Lady Gaga looked soooo pretty when she arrived but her cheap yellow pee-pee hair ruined the look....it doesn't matter if you're wearing an armani dress - I have NEVER seen anyone pull this look off in my entire life.....pee-pee hair and porcelain doll skin doesn't even look good on the angriest, unorthodox of punks....then you have the nerve to wear a white dress and silver shoes??? FAIL! Why!? Then when she switched it up and gave us a Marylin Manson-lookin-Bowie-fail.
I will clean this post up later....
*Kara* thinks Ciara is starting to look like that Olivia-suck-the-fun-out-of-everything-gives-me-cheekbones-girl from The City
This is just like every other blog. The only difference here is that HOODandPROPER is written with a sincere desperation to be read and loved by all. If you don't believe me, read on.
