Flashback: British R'n'B

Anyone who has had the privilege of living with me (haha) can tell you I spend an excessive amount of time on the Internet...okay, I admit it - I'm a YouTube fanatic... I can't help it!!! I remember being one of the first to find YouTube when I was in high school and encouraging (or educating) others on the good videos to watch videos in IT class. I knew it would come in handy one day....I do a YouTube chart for SuperSuper magazine now LOL!
A few weeks ago, I went through a high school phase where I watched YouTube videos from my SATS/GCSE days. If you remember the music around 1999-2004, then you will know some of it is quality stuff although, mostly cheesy! Anyway, MTV has started a 'Best of British' week and as I am on a holiday from Uni (or at least I think I am ...if not, I have upped my total of missed lectures) I enjoyed an afternoon watching British R'n'B that reminded me of school. Most of it was from this era because British R'n'B was 'cool' back then.

Here are some that I thought might trigger some memories...

Note: One thing I noticed was that some of these videos had a better budget than the BUDGET channel U type videos that are churned out every milli-second....

What a HYPE!!!

[If there are many mistakes in the post, forgive me. I'm typing this whist my brother quizzes me about Ben 10. The volume level is set at 'Epic'.]

Wow! Valentines was an odd day. I spent most of the day being a Valentines Hatorr, with the rest of the other singletons at my workplace. The conversation was along the lines of:

"Valentines is a commercialised hype....more fool you if you buy into it...no, I'm not saying that cos I don't have a date...I had many options - I CHOSE to be single, so like - whatever innit..."

I went shopping during my lunch so maybe I was subconsciously trying to comfort my single-ness....but I'm always spending money so that's a lie haha! Funnily enough, many people who had the option for a candlelight dinner decided to go to one of the many raves capitalising off the luvvy-duvvy day. So, along with my mixture of single/attached peeps, we decided Work It @ the ICA should be the location for silly dancing and gun-finger movements.

We got there around 9pm and there was some long-ass queue even though the doors were opening at 10pm. That's supposed to be a good sign right? NOPE! Cue madness. We didn't have tickets so we had to watch whilst the eager ones who booked tickets online went in first (Erm, tickets online??? Anyways!). Flouncing past us to meet their other poser friends, you could tell they were relishing in the sight of us shivering as they laughed loudly at unfunny things in a bid to anger us and the ticket-less mob. An angry mob of hipsters and scenesters is quite funny - the air of nonchalance is overly destroyed! A random bottle being thrown in the direction of the entrance was overlooked as the security guards were too busy pushing and roughing up girls...YES, GIRLS, I laughed as I thought to myself : "If this was hood rave it would've triggered a fight but this simply fell on a girls head and no one said a heated word..."

12pm was when they let the ticket-less in....that means we had spent THREE HOURS in the freezing cold for that any rave!!! Any-who, just before I was let in, something bad happened. WHERE WAS MY MUM'S BROOCH SHE USED TO ROCK IN THA 80's??????ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! The sentimental value starts to give me an instant headache. Aside from the mosh pit of a queue, the area outside was HUGE and covered in all sorts of trash, I had also been back and forth going to shops whilst waiting out there.....I knew I had lost it forever. Great. Just great...if I had known I was going to lose jewellery, trust me, I would have not gone ANYWHERE!!

The lump in my throat was comforted by a randomite telling me she had lost many a family heirloom, so as I squeezed past the bouncers I hoped that Work It would cheer me up. Whilst I frantically thought of how to tell my mum what I had lost, I accidentally joined the male queue for security frisking. This was followed by laughter and me joking that letting the dude frisk me would be more desperate than Dan. Yuck - security frisks!!! What's worse - Helga frisking you or Boris? I'm still tryna work out if Helga WAS in fact a Helga? PE teacher flashbacks...

By this time it felt like it was my right to party, much like the Beastie Boys. Anyways, me, my girls and any other randomites we recruited skanked it out for a few measly hours. The first photographer who took photos of the crew that night was quite creative, asking me to bite my chian and allsorts ....so I asked what this was in aid for:
"I work for Vice"
"Vice!?!?"
"Yeah! I was waao waaoo waoh wowoowaoao...[peanuts]"I switched off as I remembered the section where they ridicule the public to the max.....and prayed not to be listed alongside the word "cliche"....

A few Hatorrs and dance battles later, we left at 3am not impressed by the event even though we danced like it our last. My hair proceeded to the Afro checkout and I made a vain attempt to find my brooch by asking Boris & Co if anyone handed it in.

"NO! Now can you leave please?"
"Are you sure no one handed anything in?"
"Yes!"
"Sorry, what was that you said you lost?" One of the organisers got involved as he could see I was about to go flipmode on Boris."A brooch? Did it have a cat on it?"
My heart literally stopped beating.
"Don't play with me....PLEASE TELL ME YOU'VE SEEN IT?!?!?"
"Is it a cat on a mirror?"
"YES!!!YES IT IS!!!OH MY GOSH YOU FOUND IT - I LOVE YOU!!!"
"It's a beautiful brooch....you're very lucky - I found it among bottles outside!"
"Are you serious??!?! You lovely man - I love you - you have made my Valentines - I love you soooo much ....phew.....I LOVE YOU x 37 etc"
The guy goes a tad bit red as I go on about how I love everyone there and Boris No. 5 ,overwhelmed by my love or piss-takingly mutters, 'Love you too'. Oh and then I had a go at the first Boris who told me to leave (he was actually African, like me, but hey!)"AND YOU! Yes, you! If I had listened to you I would have lost my brooch forever! You're MEAN!"*African Boris Voice*"Course I wanted to go home yeh so I had to say dat one to you...."

All in all, I got the greatest gift ever on Valentines, I felt the love of a domino effect via honest, caring people. The organiser dude didn't have to care for the outside of the venue by picking up bottles, he was running the show for goodness sake! But he did! And because of that, the love for my Mum's brooch lives on!!! My faith in the good of humanity was definitely restored. I want to keep it that way....

here is the brooch...it's a cat trying to catch something on a mirror.....I'm not a fan of cats (they should be called biatches rather than female dogs) but it's different, so I likesss.

Lets HURL CHUNKS of Annoyance at One Another

Hmmm, another interesting train journey. As usual, on my way home to tha 'Dirty Souf' someone decides to invade my teeny bit of space on the tightest train ever.
Plonking himself down in the seat opposite mine and appearing to collapse into an instant 'sleep', his knees accidentally touch mine. And stay there. Huffing as loudly as I can, I shuffle my papers, as you do, and move my knees away. The train jolts the guy as he 'sleeps', then judging by his disgruntled expression, I think he decides, 'Hey-I don't like this position...maybe I should just follow the knees of the girl in front of me...they seem to know where it's at...' - AND HE REST HIS KNEE ON MINE AGAIN!!!ARGH!
I flip my newspaper down to a sea of faces who have noticed that I have made one too many 'paper shuffles'. I ignore them and direct a cunning smile to the initial annoyance. As I know I will finish whatever it is he wants to start, I attempt a Stare War. But then I notice that he is completely oblivious to the anger stirred up in me as his face is now in negotiations with his crotch......and his face is as white as Letoya Jackson.....before I know it, he shakes himself awake and looks back at me. Defiant, I smile threateningly. But now I know he's smashed, I decide to concentrate on moving my feet.....vomit on trainers is not the one!
Dude: "Hi".

Huh - did he really just address me? I look around at the other passengers and they are all staring back at me....great....other than playing knees-ie with me he is now going to draw further unwanted attention to me.
I smile politely and raise my newspaper to a defensive height. He must have thought I was smiling for OTHER reasons.....what a loser.....
Dude: "Where have you been tonight?"
The Asian man and his balaclava are now fully engrossed in my embarrassed face.
Me: "Sorry?" (I am now quite pissed off)
Dude: "Where have you been?" (He is blatantly tryna hold it down)
Me: "Why?" (I am disgusted)
Dude: "Just tryna make conversation."
Me: "Oh...[now the whole train is looking at me disregarding my increasing shyness. Great - I have to entertain his foolishness to keep from the dreaded, awkward silence]...I was at uni."
Dude: So where's - (Really - why is he still talking to me?)
Me: Are you gonna be sick?
Dude: NO!
Me: Oh...okay (He tried to take me for a mug so the newspaper shield got a rewind)
Dude: (goes back to 'sleep' ......tries out a few positions before realising that the best position would be by the exit doors)
As the guy throws up relentlessly, everyone finds the whole thing quite amusing and keep looking over at me in a bid to encourage mutual laughter. Instead, I watch him, concerned and have this weird sense that I should be helping him because we were once conversation buddies (Don't ask!?)
Obviously, he gets off at my station because I live where all the madness resides. I push through the crowd so I lose all responsibility of him and his hurlage. Poor guy - he was probably so lonely that he would try and move to someone as mad as me on the eve of Valentines day! LOL!

Yes, this post is dull and irrelevant in the midst of all the 'fashion, music, the scene etc' type blogs. Mission accomplished.

Here's me in an outfit I was going to wear for Valentines day - some vintage leggings that are very similar to an H&M pair that I didn't purchase years ago coz I thought it would be bait and every girl on road would have 'em. Well, I have only seen THREE girls wearing them so I now realise that I missed out!!! The blue dress is from Miss Selfridge and is of course BODYCON (I heart) but I got the wrong size....dahwell...I'ma exchange this on a quick one later today. I hate that I never have time to try stuff on....then again it's long because I waste valuable shopping time, ha! As Kanye put it '"...Just know when I'm getting one, the other's getting away". .....hmmm... I'll probably wear something a bit more understated , people love to look like they are ON IT around V'day LOL!

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!!!Yayyyy me!

Don't Step On My Blue Suede Shoes

As I have been snowed under (literally and figuratively) over the past two weeks, so I had to keep my shopping habits to a minimum. I did this by purchasing this lovely denim peplum skirt and these blue suede/patent black shoes, from Miss Selfridge as shown above.....oh and over a hundred pounds worth of other items. So, yeah - I was a VERY happy bunny....but then I left them at a friends pyjama party [FUN TIMES] along with the cardigan I was wearing when I GOT there, like a top scatty, loser! And NO...I wasn't sloshed - I was drunk off cake!

Anyway, I LOVE all things blue and suede so when I saw these Topshop Unique heels I went slightly bonkers....

...at 90squid they are sooooo WORTH IT! I was sold when I saw the abstract heel design but the blue suede was the cherry on top! I browsed for a hot minute on Topshop.com because I knew if I spent too long I would be tempted to use the last of my neverlasting monies and came across some stuff....

Wasted: Stacey Smashed

Apparently, Genevieve Jones (above) is a socialite. I won't even go into the 'money can't buy class' argument - this is more of a 'money can't buy brains' issue. And I know she wasn't serious about them sheer socks either....and those circa 1996 platform shoes....what is this? A wasted version of Stacey Dash in Clueless?? And look at her face...even SHE is looking unsure! If you were'nt sure - think about it indoors - stay your ass AT HOME! We all have bad days but she must have taken a hit of some sorta drug to brave this outfit! Or she needs to GET hit by something...I dunno...!

*I am: Hood and Catty*

Popped!! Welcome to ...

Hood and Proper!
(Now how can I get this page looking less pathetic...)

I thought it would be best to give the one person who is reading this at the moment (moi) a little background knowledge so that person in question (moi) knows where I am going with this blogging thing!

Erm...okay...now I have typed and deleted a lot of REALLY weird info about myself, I will now trade it in for boring stuff...
My name is not musikseven. It's my blogger name on Dweeb Frat* (the sickest dudes!) and Whoresneverlearn.com (a site which I love reading and blogging for!)
I love God, then I love my family, then music, laughing, fashion, YouTube, wearing bows blah blah etc. (I initially wrote music before family...yeaaa?!)
I studied Music Technology at college before I decided to pursue my other passion, journalism, at university (NEVER STUDY JOURNALISM! ITS LONG!).
I am finishing a Journalism & Communication in April (YES...freedom will reign!).
I like spending money that I don't have.
Even though I talk WAY too much and always crack jokes I love being reclusive. Truthfully speaking, I am VERY shy, sarcastic and scatty.
I have the maddest sleep pattern ever.
I am a perfectionist in my mind but the reality is I'm lazy.
I make beats (...not hits, or 'bangers' so don't get excited! However, I've never finished one so who knows if they'll end up good!).
I nearly typed something too personal....erm....this blog will spell the rest of my disorganised life out for all of us to see!
Oh yes! Most important: I have quite a short attention span. Trust me! One minute, I'll be on this blogging ting...next minute, I won't! Although I love music with all my heart, I have NEVER finished a beat...there's the evidence of things that I love but I can walk away from (an empty threat to a non existing audience - how sad!).
Although I am quite good at expressing myself with a ladylike eloquence, courtesy of my wonderful Mother, sometimes the 'hoodrat from the endz' jumps out of me, much like Sasha Fierce (I love that nut!). It sounds irrelevant now....but I thought it might help to mention this because my blog posts may appear really juvenile at times....or at most.
I love Ice Cream and cereal (There are currently 8 boxes in my room on campus - J.Lo needs Evian...and I needs ma Cheerios!)
I love too many things...
When I write I use a lot of obscure slang, 'unnecessary (asides)' and I have an issue with being concise.

*I am*: Hood and Sly. (I only told two people I started my own blog ha!)
